Two weeks ago, President Trump was focused on terrifying transgender children and breaking up immigrant families. This week he is back to banning Muslims and turning away refugees fleeing for their lives. None of these mean-spirited acts makes America any greater or safer. In fact, we all suffer when the highest official in the land is attacking people and families because of who they are, where they were born, or how they pray.
NCTE calls on Congress to immediately pass legislation to prohibit the federal government from banning, registering, or otherwise discriminating against individuals because of their race, nationality, or religion, and to protect refugees fleeing war and other deadly threats.
