Washington, D.C.—The US Justice Department filed a brief today urging the Supreme Court to give businesses that serve the public a wide-ranging license to discriminate against LGBT Americans.

Mara Keisling, NCTE Executive Director, said the following:

"The Trump Justice Department is trying to turn our most cherished civil rights laws into civil rights suggestions. Its arguments would allow businesses to turn away transgender people - or anyone else they don't like because of who they are. The lower courts have for years rejected such a constitutional right to discriminate, and we are confident the Supreme Court will do the same."
